DNF Controls today announced that Spanish television station Tele5 has installed multiple 3040P-L Playlist Playout systems into a new transmission control room. Purchased through Madrid-based Broadcast Meditel, one of Spain's most established dealers of broadcast equipment, the systems will function as easy-to-use, low-cost backups in case of on-air automation failure.
"DNF's 3040P-L Playlist Playout systems are excellent options for providing affordable redundancy to keep commercials and programming on the air when automation systems crash," said Valentín Nanclares, managing director of Broadcast Meditel. "Tele5 is very popular in Spain, and with its investment in DNF Controls equipment, their reliability has been greatly improved."
Tele5 is one of three private TV stations in Spain that features national coverage. It broadcasts one popular channel featuring entertainment programs in analog UHF and digital terrestrial.
The 3040P-L Playlist Playout systems that Tele5 purchased provide quick and easy playlist creation, editing, and playout under manual control. The 3040P can play out a single clip or a list of clips and stop at the end of a commercial break. Users can edit the list while it is playing out - append, insert and delete clips, and add breaks, then save the playlist in the 3040P's non-volatile memory for later playout.
The system consists of DNF's ST400 controller with a large LCD display and Playlist Playout software and can control one playlist per channel on up to five channels, for a total of 2,000 elements. When configured as a backup for on-air automation, as with Tele5's installation, the 3040P-L uses the same VDCP control protocol as the facilities automation system, so it can immediately take control of the channel without requiring a spare server channel.
