DNF Controls today announced that True North Sports & Entertainment Limited, owner of the Manitoba Moose hockey team, purchased and installed two ST300-DSR1K-T Slow-Motion Controllers for the MTS Centre, located in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada. The Moose are an American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, and the team is using DNF's controllers in its state-of-the-art digital video production room for instant replays and slow-motion playback capability. Designed for demanding sports production environments, the DNF controllers provide quick and precise control of the facility's four Sony DSR-DR1000 digital hard-disk recorders during Moose home games.
"DNF's ST300-DSR1K-T and our Sony recorders provide a powerful, simple package with exceptional flexibility for presenting highlights and replays, allowing us to deliver a dynamic visual production to Moose fans," said Bill Coward, manager of audio visual services, True North Sports & Entertainment, Ltd. "DNF's controllers are meeting all of our expectations, and their familiar, easy-to-use interface allowed the staff to learn the system quickly, just a few hours before game time. As a company, DNF has been very responsive and even worked overtime to help us get the functionality we needed. I wish we had more suppliers like them."
Four Sony DXC-D50 cameras capture all of the action on the ice, recording footage onto the four DSR-DR1000 stream-based hard-disk recorders. The ST300-DSR1K-T controllers allow operators to mark cue points on the fly and play back video instantly without disrupting the recording process. They also provide fast, easy, and reliable VTR-like control so operators can bring Moose fans instant replays and slow-motion playback of key plays via the arena's main video screen, a full-color Daktronics ProStar® LED display. Also included in the new system is a Ross Synergy 1-MLE video production switcher.
Developed for live sports when every second counts, the ST300-DSR1K-T puts users in control by providing fast, easy, reliable, and precise control over the Sony DSR-DR1000 DVCAM stream-based hard-disk recorder. The ST300-DSR1K-T's familiar and intuitive interface helps operators get the job done, allowing them to mark and recall cue points at the press of a button. It supports up to 100 cue points per VTR, and also includes a T-bar for fast, simple, and smooth slow-motion instant replay.
As building owner and developer, True North Sports & Entertainment, Ltd. completed construction of the MTS Centre in November 2004. The MTS Centre is a 15,000+ seat entertainment, sports, performing arts, and community events facility whose primary tenant is the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose.
Since the team moved into the MTS Centre, close to 790,000 hockey fans have come to the MTS Centre to watch the Moose. In 2005-2006, the Moose won 44 games and finished with 100 points before losing out in the second round of the AHL playoffs. As a facility, the MTS Centre is seen as a major catalyst in Winnipeg's ongoing business and cultural renaissance that includes new and planned initiatives for sports, tourism, education, business, entertainment, and dining in the downtown area.
