SYLMAR, Calif. - Aug. 5, 2008 - DNF Controls today announced that sister stations WFTV channel 9 and WRDQ TV 27, in Orlando, Fla., are using three Universal Switch Panels (USPs) at their shared television studios to provide clear, reliable control over microphones' on/off function during news production. ABC affiliate WFTV and independent station WRDQ have deployed two USP-8 systems and one USP-16 from DNF Controls to complement the installation of a new automated newscast production system.
"DNF Controls' USP panels make it easy for our directors to control the status of microphones during production of our newscasts," said John Demshock, director of engineering, WFTV and WRDQ. "The USP is a clean, professional-grade product that stands up to the rigors of the live production environment. It saved us the trouble of building our own solution and every day gives our staff a high level of confidence in managing and monitoring microphone activity."
The USP is a panel of multipurpose, configurable push-button switches with an easy-to-use interface designed to meet the wide range of control needs for broadcast, production, A/V, and industrial environments. The USP emulates the operation of mechanical push-buttons while adding a high degree of flexibility and application-specific functionality not available in conventional push-button panels.
Each USP features easy-to-read labels that change when activated, thus providing WFTV and WRDQ staff with both control and a visual cue as to the on/off status of each microphone. DNF Controls' GTP-32 GPI Tally Processors are already in use at the shared studios.
"The USP is made to do exactly what we want, and its programmable buttons have given us just the functionality we need," added Demshock. "It's clear that DNF Controls did its homework in developing and building the USP. We've been pleased with the performance of our units and with the support we've received from DNF Controls."
