What is the Difference Between
CLIP CONTROL and PLAYLIST CONTROL?
Overview
Clip controllers and playlist controllers can read the clip IDs of the video clips stored in a video server, load clips, and play clips. The difference is how they accomplish this. The clip controller provides random access to the clips, to load and play when needed. The playlist controller plays out a list of clips, in a specific order.
Clip Control
Clip control gives the operator manual control over a video server, providing random access to the video clips stored in the video server.
-
Press a Shotbox key to instantly access a clip, load it, then play it.
-
Scroll through the clip IDs of the clips in the server, select one, then play it.
-
Recall a clip, from a controller cue point, then play it.
Clip control is ideal for environments where the order of clip playout will change frequently due to a show's content (ie: a game show or talk show), late breaking events (ie: news), or unforeseen events (ie: on-air technical difficulties).
After the PLAY key is pressed, the clip will play to its end then stop. The operator will manually select the next clip to play and press the PLAY key when it is time to play it.
General workflow-
1) Load a single clip, Fill clip & Key clip combination, or 4 - 8 channels of clips at one time.
2) Press the PLAY key to play from the beginning and stop at the end.
OR,
Mark an IN and OUT point, then press the PLAY key to play from the IN point and stop at the OUT point, instead of the whole clip.
OR,
Press the LOOP key to play the whole clip as a seamless loop. If an IN point and OUT point are marked, loop between IN and OUT.
Press STOP to stop playout.
3) Repeat steps #1 & #2 to load and play the next clip or clip combination.
Playlist Control
Playlist control provides playout of a list of clips, one after the other, on one video server channel.
Playlist control is ideal for environments where the order of clip playout does not change often. It is also ideal when there is a requirement to play one clip after the other without operator intervention.
Press PLAY to start playout of the list. When the currently playing clip reaches its end, the next clip in the list will automatically start to play. Each clip (also called an element) in the list will play out in turn. The list will stop playing at the end of the list or at a BREAK element.
To change the order of playout, edit the list to change the order of the clips. Remove clips from the list to prevent them from playing out. Insert new clips into the list to have them play out.
General workflow-
1) Download a list of clips into the controller
OR,
Build a list of clips to playout on the controller.
2) Select the clip in the list at which to begin playout.
3) Press the PLAY key to begin playout.
Each clip in the list will playout, one right after the other.
Playout will stop at the end of the list or at a BREAK element in the list.
